Communication

If I chose a word to best describe my practice as a Therapist it would have to be 'communication'.

I can recall a visit to A&E many years ago when I heard the nurse delivering her first question to the newly arrived patients, "So, what's going on here then"? She asked.    Patients that were able to speak readily told their story to her and from this I was reminded of how easy it is to describe the body's physical pain but not that belonging to the mind, heart and soul.

Connecting and Translating

I have a passion for connecting thoughts,  feelings and experiences  into a common language  -  not always  words - but into any form of expression that brings an understanding and a relief. It may be similar to the moment we find the right word in a crossword puzzle or the experience of being understood, but I believe every one of us searches for the best way to express ourselves. When times are tough and this search proves unsuccessful our frustrations can lead towards terrible depression, anxiety and poor quality of life.   Even  understanding why we feel low does not always provide the support we need - this is when meeting with someone who can unconditionally accept us and direct us towards ways of coping can bring such release.

My thirty years experience as both Therapist, teacher and trainer has enabled me to enjoy a rich and varied set of  skills within a variety of settings  but I frequently return to *Daniel Hughes's work on attachment where he reminds us to hold PACE in mind, with our children, our friends and family  ..... to be Playful, Accepting, Creative and Empathic
